Hi, I'm Kara! I'm a retail copywriter, editor and content strategist—and I'm thrilled you're here.
Words have always been my thing. Numbers scare me and letters fascinate me (although, if I'd been born a math whiz, I would've loved to have been an astrophysicist!). I did undergrad at Northwestern University, and I left Evanston for New York City with a journalism degree from Medill and a concentration in art history.
After a stint in communications at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, I landed at People weekly. I'll always hold Time Inc. near and dear to my heart—it jumpstarted my career and gave me some of my closest (and most brilliant) friends and colleagues. I was there from 2005 to 2011, when I left to try my hand at freelancing and digital nomading.
I've been addicted to both ever since! I explored Kenya, South Africa, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Thailand that year—and I wrote a book, "Frommer's 100 Best Packing Tips," on the road, on an iPad.
It's also the year I started working with brands. I learned that I really enjoy helping companies tell their stories. It allows me to be more creative than I ever thought possible, and I love putting my words into action on a daily basis!
Although I primarily write marketing and advertising copy, I still pen the occasional editorial piece. In addition to People (weekly and StyleWatch), my work has appeared in InStyle, Redbook, Rachael Ray Every Day, and on PureWow.com, GoodHousekeeping.com and Frommers.com.
When I'm not drafting copy, I fill my time pursuing other interests, which, along with travel, include art, interior design and photography. I'm currently learning to shoot better photos on my Sony a6000. The images on this page are a few of my favorites!
I left Brooklyn last year to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia, and that's where you'll find me when I'm not on the road.
